Mechanical Construction Recruitment

Gulfstream Strategic Placements connects commercial mechanical contractors, ESCOs, and building automation integrators with top HVAC, plumbing, piping, sheet metal, and controls talent across the United States.

What Gulfstream recruits for

Project management & field leadership search

Project executives, project managers, superintendents and general foremen for commercial HVAC, plumbing, piping and sheet metal contractors. We recruit against your backlog and delivery method, not a generic job title.

Estimating & preconstruction search

Chief estimators, senior estimators and preconstruction managers who can take off mechanical scope, build a bid strategy and defend the number in a hard-bid or design-assist room.

Service & operations leadership

Service managers, service directors and lead technicians for contractors running maintenance agreements, retrofit and 24/7 response — including P&L-owning branch leadership.

VDC / BIM & controls talent

VDC managers, piping and sheet metal detailers, BIM coordinators, and BAS/DDC programmers and controls project managers. These are the two scopes contractors tell us are hardest to staff.

Confidential executive search

Retained, discreet searches for general managers, vice presidents and owners' successors — run without your name reaching the market until you decide it should.

Direct-hire placement for candidates

There is never a fee to a candidate. Send a resume once and we match it against active and upcoming searches, including roles that are never posted publicly.

How an engagement runs

  1. Intake — We take the scope, market, comp band and start date — usually a 20-minute call. Submit it any time at /new-job-order.
  2. Search — Sourcing runs against our own mechanical database plus direct outreach. The first qualified slate typically lands in 7–10 business days.
  3. Hire — Contingency placements bill on hire and carry a 90-day replacement guarantee; retained executive searches use a phased fee agreed up front.

Union recruitment and wage research

About half of the contractors we recruit for are signatory shops, so we keep an open reference set for the trades: hall addresses and dispatch numbers, the latest published journeyman scale with its effective date, and the openings we are actively recruiting for near each hall. Gulfstream is a private recruiting firm — we do not run dispatch, we are not affiliated with any local, and we do not set or negotiate union rates. Every wage figure on the site is the local's own published sheet, dated, with a link to the source.

  • UA — plumbers, pipefitters, steamfitters & sprinkler fitters — Every UA local we track, its hall city, published journeyman scale and the openings near it.
  • IBEW — electricians — IBEW locals by state and local number, with hall contacts and electrical openings.
  • SMART — sheet metal workers — SMART locals, sheet metal and HVAC scale, and the metros where we are recruiting now.
  • Local union directory — Hall address, dispatch line, trade and latest published wage sheet for every local on file.
  • 2026 union wage index — Journeyman hourly rates and total packages, sourced to the published sheet and dated.
  • Union calendar — Dated wage steps and agreement dates, each row linked to the document it came from.
  • Union FAQ — Dues, funds, contract terms and how union work compares with open shop.
  • Union-scale job search — Search live openings by trade, city or local number — "local 296 jobs", "HVAC jobs Phoenix".
