Between the Texas Medical Center expansions, the LNG and petrochemical corridor along the Ship Channel, and the ongoing wave of hyperscale data center builds in Waller and Fort Bend counties, active project square footage stays measured in the tens of millions — regardless of what the wider construction cycle is doing. Superintendents who can move fluidly between hospital central plants, industrial process piping, and mission-critical CRAC/CRAH work are the profile our Houston clients pursue hardest.
The strongest candidates we place here typically own a mixed résumé: a decade of commercial HVAC and hydronic install leadership, plus at least one large healthcare or life-science central utility plant on their record. Familiarity with MEP coordination in Revit and Navisworks is table stakes; the differentiator is the ability to hold a coordinated 3D model in one hand and a paper-based ASME B31.1/B31.9 spec book in the other. Compensation for a fully-loaded commercial mechanical superintendent in Houston generally lands in the $135K–$175K base range, with truck allowance, per-diem on out-of-metro work, and a project-completion or milestone bonus that can add 10–20%. Roles at the industrial and mission-critical end of the market — particularly on data center campuses in Katy, Cypress, and the North Belt — push closer to $185K base with performance bonuses tied to schedule and turnover milestones. We rarely see a strong candidate accept a lateral move here for less than a 12% total-comp lift.
