From takeoff to turnover, software connects estimating, design, fabrication, the field and the office. Explore what each tool does, where it fits and which roles commonly work with it.
Independent, sourced product education—not a client list, endorsement or software partnership. Typical use depends on employer, project, edition and modules; knowing a product is not a universal job requirement. This is a reviewed starting catalog, not every application in the industry. Estimating & takeoff
Trimble AutoBid Mechanical
Current product reference · Tenant improvement, Major construction
Specification-driven takeoff and estimating for mechanical, piping and plumbing work, including assemblies and labor/cost reporting.
Database setup, labor assumptions and scope review matter more than accepting an output unquestioned.
Trimble documentation uses historical Quick-Pen AutoBid wording; QuickPen is a legacy association, not a verified one-to-one rename of every current edition.
Historical construction project-control and information-management systems for cost, procurement, documents and field administration.
Legacy reference only: present sales, support and availability are not verified. Existing employers may retain legacy workflows; ask about migration and edition.
Current product reference · Service, Tenant improvement, Major construction, Operations
Construction ERP connecting financials, job costing, service, payroll/workforce and operations in a module-based system.
AP, AR, controller and CFO need different views and permissions. The project accountant works with project delivery while reconciling information with corporate accounting.
Current Access branding follows the acquisition of COINS; installed versions and modules may differ.
Current product reference · Service, Facilities / owner
Building management/integration platform for monitoring, operation and analysis across technical systems; brings together consumption data, operating data and faults.
FIS here means HERMOS FIS BMS. It can share data with ERP/CAFM systems, but BMS alarms/trends are not the same as CMMS work orders or accounting.
Current product reference · Tenant improvement, Major construction
Specialized 3D fire-sprinkler CAD design, hydraulic calculation and stocklisting.
Adjacent specialty reference—not a general HVAC/plumbing design package or an expansion of Gulfstream’s recruiting scope. Software output still requires applicable technical and code review.
Specialist sprinkler design, hydraulic calculations and stocklisting under applicable qualifications and review.
How the systems connect
Estimate → project
Transfer reviewed quantities, exclusions, labor assumptions and budget cost codes. An estimating export is not automatically an approved project budget.
Design → detail → coordinate
Design authoring establishes system intent; contractor detailing prepares constructible packages; coordination tools track conflicts and decisions. Agreed model versions matter.
Model → shop → field
Release approved fabrication and layout information with revision control, coordinate-system checks and tracked deliveries. Do not assume native interoperability.
Project → accounting
The PM supplies approved changes and cost forecasts; project accounting reconciles job detail; AP/AR and the controller manage their financial processes. ERP and PM integrations need reconciliation.
Turnover → service → owner
Hand over asset IDs, startup records, manuals and maintenance requirements. BMS operating data and CMMS work orders complement one another but do different jobs.
