Job Overview
The Manufacturing Safety Manager is critical in leading and enhancing the organization's safety programs to protect employee health and ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and state and local regulatory requirements. This role is vital in fostering a proactive safety culture across the organization through continuous risk assessments, compliance management, and direct engagement with all employees. The ideal candidate will be a technical resource for managers and line supervisors to minimize EH&S issues related to human injury, environmental impacts, and hazardous working conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- EH&S Program Management: Develop, implement, and maintain compliance policies and procedures to align with environmental, health, and safety regulations. Proactively enhance the organization's safety management systems.
- Training and Development: Identify, design, and facilitate training programs for all employees, focusing on environmental, safety, and health protocols. Act as the primary contact with federal, state, and local agencies on EH&S matters.
- Risk and Hazard Assessment: Conduct comprehensive risk assessments to identify potential risks and gaps in safety systems. Analyze data related to occupational health issues, including chemical exposure, radiation, fumes, noise, and ergonomics.
- Incident Investigation and Reporting: Lead investigations of workplace incidents and injuries. Collaborate with HR to ensure timely and accurate reporting to appropriate regulatory bodies.
- Environmental Impact Management: Oversee hazardous material communications, maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and develop control measures for dangerous conditions. Ensure compliance with the Environmental Management System by ISO standards.
- Experience: Minimum of four years in occupational safety within a manufacturing environment, with at least two years in a supervisory or management role. Experience in a heavy industrial setting is strongly preferred.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA regulations and prior experience managing safety programs in compliance with federal and state laws.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. Experience in maintaining environmental and safety documentation.
- Local and Stable Work History: Proven track record of stability in previous roles and local experience within the industry.
