Job Title: Building Automation Controls Design Engineer

Location: Orange County, CA

We are currently seeking a talented Building Automation Controls Design Engineer with expertise in Tridium Niagara and Distech controls systems to join our growing team.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, program, and commission building automation systems (BAS) using Tridium Niagara and Distech control products.
  • Develop detailed control sequences of operation, system architecture diagrams, point-to-point wiring diagrams, and control panel layouts.
  • Collaborate with project managers, mechanical engineers, and field technicians to ensure the proper implementation of control system designs.
  • Perform site visits to assess existing control systems and provide recommendations for system upgrades and retrofits.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system issues related to hardware, software, and network communications.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, products, and best practices in building automation and energy management.
  • Assist in preparing project proposals, cost estimates, and bid documents.
  • Provide technical support and training to customers and internal team members on the proper use and maintenance of control systems.
  • Maintain clear and accurate project documentation, including design specifications, as-built drawings, and commissioning reports.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably in Mechanical, Electrical, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in building automation system design and programming, specifically with Tridium Niagara and Distech control products.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, including air handling units, chillers, boilers, and VAV systems.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and protocols, such as BACnet, Modbus, and LonWorks.
  • Proficient in computer-aided design (CAD) software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex control system issues.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to travel to local project sites as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or Certified Energy Manager (CEM) designation.
  • Experience with energy management systems, including energy metering, demand response, and analytics.
  • Familiarity with LEED, Title 24, and other energy efficiency standards and codes.
