Interview prep
Pick your interview type. Every Gulfstream candidate gets prepped personally before they meet a hiring team.
How we prep you for a video interview
Three things happen before every virtual interview.
- Step 1 · When your interview is booked
Interview expectations, confirmed up front
Your recruiter walks you through who you'll meet, how long it runs, the format, and what the hiring team wants to see — so nothing about the day is a surprise.
- Step 2 · The day before
A short Microsoft Teams test call
About 10 minutes. We check your camera, microphone, lighting, background, and internet, and confirm the time and time zone, so the real call starts clean.
- Step 3 · Before the interview
A reminder call, email, and text
You'll get all three with the time, the link, and who you're meeting. If anything changes, reply to any of them and we'll sort it out.
Tech setup
- Use a laptop or desktop, not a phone, if you can
- Install or update Microsoft Teams (or the platform in your invite) the day before
- Camera at eye level; sit about an arm's length away
- Wired headphones or earbuds to avoid echo
- Plug in your charger and close other apps and tabs
- Turn off notifications and silence your phone
- Have a backup: the dial-in number and your recruiter's phone handy
Room and appearance
- Quiet room with the door closed
- Light in front of you (a window or lamp), not behind you
- Plain, tidy background — avoid virtual backgrounds unless needed
- Dress as you would for an in-person interview, head to toe
- Let anyone at home know you're unavailable
Timing
- Double-check the time zone in the invite
- Join 5 minutes early, camera on, muted until greeted
- If you can't connect within 2 minutes, call or text your recruiter right away
- Block 15 minutes after the scheduled end in case it runs long
During the call
- Look at the camera when you speak, not your own video
- Pause a beat before answering — video adds a small delay
- Keep answers to about 1–2 minutes; use a real project example
- Have your resume and 3 questions for them on paper nearby
- Ask about next steps and thank each person by name at the end
After the interview
Call or text your recruiter as soon as you hang up. Share how it went, what they asked, and any concerns — that feedback helps us advocate for you with the hiring team.
